Four dead after Miami jewelry heist leads to carjacking, chase and shootout

Two armed jewelry thieves trying to escape the scene of their heist on Thursday hijacked a delivery truck, took its driver hostage and then led police on a high-speed chase that ended in a deadly shootout. The events began as two armed suspects robbed a jewelry store in Coral Gables near Miami.

A shootout ensued when the delivery truck was caught in traffic at around 5:30 p.m. in Miramar, a city in Florida. The two suspects, the driver of the UPS truck and a bystander were killed in the gun battle on a busy street. One person was taken on a stretcher into an ambulance, while another was flown to hospital by helicopter in critical condition. More than 40 emergency vehicles were involved by the end of the chase.
